BIG Red composite intermediate bulk container receives NMFC item 180 certificationsIndependent laboratory testing confirms durability (AUG. 13, 2007) - HOUSTON - Environmental Packaging Technologies (EPT), a provider of bulk packaging products and turnkey shipping solutions, reported today that its BIG Red™ composite intermediate bulk container (IBC) has passed the National Motor Freight Classification (NMFC) Item 180 test, giving shippers who use BIG Red the added confidence their goods are being transported in performance-based packaging. To earn Item 180 certification, shipping containers must demonstrate through laboratory testing that they provide adequate protection in the motor carrier environment for the transport of particular commodities. The NMFC classifies goods and materials transported by truck in North America. The classification allows for comparisons of freight based on four transportation characteristics: density, storability, handling and liability. The NMFC standard also includes packaging requirements for each type of commodity to ensure adequate protection for products moved in less than truckload motor carrier service. National Motor Freight’s Item 180, a pre-shipment test method, is recommended for use in solving damage problems and determining assurance levels during shipments of valuable articles. “Passing these stringent testing procedures enables our products to be globally certified for use in all conditions,” said EPT President Tatiana Golovina. “Shippers who choose BIG Red can ship their valuable goods worry-free.” BIG Red IBCs are constructed of three walls of high-impact resistant composite sheeting in a strong octagonal shape. Replaceable and recyclable inner liner bags are made of 100 percent FDA-approved composite materials, and can be changed quickly and inexpensively.
